The Tempest: A Magical Storm of Forgiveness
July, 2009, La Cañada Theatre presented "The Tempest: A Magical Storm of Forgiveness": a fanciful, light-hearted and audience friendly adaptation of Shakespeare’s play. Adapted and directed by Tom Beyer, (The Merchant of Venice Beach) this seventy five minute version has a unique and talented cast of actors. Ranging in age from seven to fifty. the cast portrays some of the most cherished characters in all of Shakespeare. Ariel, the magic sprite; Prospero, the vengeful, but loving magician; Caliban, the barely-human monster born of a witch and the hysterical drunken idiots Trinculo and Stephanie. With a female actress playing a one hundred year old man, a precocious ten year old playing Ariel and a black belt in Karate playing Caliban, the show reaches the full height of its fancy while digging tenderly into its philosophical depth.
